Patrick Brown
STUDIO B MANAGER | ENGINEER

A champion of San Francisco Bay Area music for more than fifteen years, Patrick Brown took the reins at Different Fur in 2007. In his decade at Different Fur, Brown has served as intern, house engineer, studio manager, and owner. Raised and educated between Long Island and Sedona, Arizona, Brown was raised surrounded by music. Between his mother’s massive collection of albums, his father’s saxophone, and his uncle’s experience on the road with everyone from Kool & The Gang to The Beach Boys, Brown was destined for a career in the industry. Brown grew up obsessed with hip-hop, rinsing artists like Cappadonna, Big Pun, and the first DJ Honda mixtape while mainstream radio was blasting Third Eye Blind and Chumbawumba. So, when he struck out on his own for advertising school, he went with his gut instinct and, partially inspired by a documentary on the making of Bjork’s Homogenic, bought a Yamaha QY-70 portable sequencer to satisfy his urge to start composing tracks. Brown eventually got his formal production education at Ex’pression College in the East Bay, and began his career in recording in the early 2000’s. A musical polymath and lover of all genres, Brown enjoys the challenge of getting artists from point A to point B, whether the artist is looking to work on songwriting, step up production quality, or simply grab the listener’s attention. Brown has been involved in records for the likes of Toro y Moi, K. Flay, The Morning Benders, and others, as well as presiding over hundreds of sessions and providing a venue for the prolific videographers of Yours Truly. Passed down from engineer to engineer, in a tradition started by Pat Gleeson in the late 1960’s, Brown is proud to run a studio with such a rich, storied legacy, and to celebrate Different Fur as a historical landmark in an ever-changing city.
