Painted Palms // Milk Bar 08.08

August 5th, 2011  |  Published in Upcoming Shows

Canopy is the latest EP of Pop-electronic duo Painted Palms, fronted by cousins Reese Donohue and Christopher Prudhomme. Originally both from Lafayette, Louisiana, they were separated by distance when Prudhomme moved to the Bay Area for school. Their collaboration officially took off when they found they could share works via the miracle of the internet. Planted Palms focus? Prudhomme explains, “We try to reveal the nature of ourselves with the music. That’s a main objective. Each song is our way of confronting obstacles in our personalities or our friendship.”

If you compare their sound to an actual rain forest canopy you’ll have a very succinct idea of PP’s vibe. It’s layered, full of lush, dense noise that fuses into an infectious environment. Synth, metal drums, echoing kookaburra samples, orchestral voices drive a melody that laps like crystal blue waves. Put some mad Mai Tai in your canteen and get engulfed in this summer sound wall at their (FREE) upcoming show this August 08 at Milk Bar, presented by Yourstru.ly. Doors at 8:30 //Show at 9.
